Great TV Apartments

Of course, in the real world, apartment living is a little less glamorous, not to mention humorous, than it is in the real world. In the real world, we pay rent, take out renters insurance, pay the utility bills, and actually live in our apartments. But, if we could hop into the TV set for a month or two, here are some of the TV apartments we’d really like to live in. Heck, we’d settle for being allowed to hang out there.
- Seinfeld’s apartment. Let’s face it, any New York apartment is, by its very definition, kind of cool. It’s easy to say that in the Midwest, where rent is about a quarter of what it is in the Big Apple, but hey, on TV that’s seldom a serious factor. Who wouldn’t want to live in that apartment, with that zany cast popping in and out all the time? OK, admittedly, most sane people wouldn’t, at least not for more than an hour a week. But nobody has accused us of being sane recently.
- Fraser. Talk about luxury. Admittedly, it was kind of wasted on Fraser, who somehow took a left turn after Cheers and really went for a sissified persona. Still, the apartment was great. An incredible view of Seattle, all the trappings of luxury you could ask for. We’d move there in a heartbeat, given the opportunity.
- Big Bang Theory. The apartment itself isn’t so special, but being able to play with assorted lasers and chemicals on a regular basis has its charms. And while Sheldon might not be the easiest character in television history to live with, we think we’d do OK as long as we don’t sit in his favorite spot. Best of all, Penny lives across the hall. And, since Leonard can’t seem to hold on to her, you never know. She has given nerds and geeks everywhere hope.
- Friends. If you lived through the ‘90s, you spent time wishing you lived in one of the Friends’ apartments. Don’t even try to deny it. Personally, we’d have liked to have roomed with Joey. If for no other reason, then because we have a high appreciation for fine Magna Doodle art.
Alas, here we are stuck in the real world, looking for real apartments, with real rent and real renters insurance. Still, if we look hard enough, maybe we can find an apartment with someone like Penny living across the hall. You never know. It could happen.
