Parents Living Six Months in Two different States

We always think that it would be nice to be able to live six months a year at two different locations. The first six in New York and this would be May 1st through October 14th. The second six months in Florida during the months stating Oct 15th through March 31st. Everyone knows you try not to travel on April fool’s day; it was something that their parents had always told them without a real reason other than it was a day to have fun. They always chalked it up to the season changing from winter to spring and you would miss the last frost if you waited until after the 1st. Another reason is the claimed residency in Florida and needed to spend a few more days there every year. The automobile insurance rates were cheaper.

Well, if you are in your fifties and retired from the military or whatever job you had then it really is not a problem making the trip back and forth between the states for the six month periods. What happens to the insurance for your automobiles? Are you able to put that on hold? This would mean having two automobile insurance policies but only one being active in the state you are residing in during that timeframe. If the vehicle is not paid in full the answer is easy because you would have to maintain automobile insurance no matter where you were or where the vehicle was located. If the vehicle is paid off then you have a choice, do you drive your vehicle from New York to Florida or put it in the garage and fly?

Then you could put a hold on your policy until you came back from Florida. You would be able to do the same thing in Florida in reverse, put your car in the garage and place a hold on your policy while you are in New York. Let’s advance twenty years and you are both in your late seventies. Your children no longer want you to make the long drive by yourselves. You are also not in a position health wise to fly. You have three children, how convenient, you know you planned this. One lives in New York, another in Virginia, and the third child lives nearby to your Florida residence. It now becomes a tag team drive and twice a year you get to see all three of your children. The child in Virginia is the middle child married to a military man so she does not get the see the parents and family as much and enjoys the time when it comes. In fact, she was the one that questioned the parents driving so far by themselves and stated the tag team driving trips a few years back.

Are the automobile insurance rates cheaper after you turn seventy years old? This may be a great time to check around to see if you are able to get cheaper rates for the way you live. You are basically a recreational driver. You go out for food and medicine and maybe some site seeing but not enough to put even on hundred miles a month on your car. Talk to your insurance agent after you do some research online and see if you are getting the best prices you can be offered. Remember, age will be a factor on your automobile insurance quotes and rates. You will almost be in the same category as a teenager for the opposite reasons. They speed and you will be driving slower in the right
lane. They look around and talk to their friends in the car or are on the phone and you will be looking around at the road signs trying to read them or looking for a land mark to locate a particular store. They get startled easy because they are new drivers and you get startled easy because everyone wants to get around you and go faster. Therefore you are both in the category to be targeted for potential accidents. Do not be surprised by this information, simply be aware and informed so you know what to ask your insurance agent or online when you can ask questions regarding your insurance rates. Otherwise, enjoy the beach in Florida and the apple cider in New York and most of all the chance to see your children every year as they tag team you between them on the drive. What do you think should happen with the rates?
