Will Your Apartment Help You Get Lucky?

From the time you started thinking about getting your own place, there was one underlying theme in your thoughts. Don’t even lie about it. You figured that getting your own apartment would (finally) give you a place where you could bring a date and get lucky without having to worry about your mom or dad walking in on you. Renters insurance, utilities, and groceries were the last thing on your mind.

If you’re like most of us guys, you probably figured out pretty quickly that it was going to take more than your own apartment to get lucky. First you have to get a girl into your apartment, which isn’t always as easy as it sounds. And even if you get her into the apartment, your chance for the big score goes down-way down- if the place looks like a cyclone hit it.

Now’s the time when all of the training your mother tried to give you comes in handy. If you’re planning on spending a night on the town, make sure you clean up your apartment first. It may not be the most fun you’ll have today, but making sure you have a clean and comfortable place to bring a hook up later on could well be part of what leads to the most fun you’ll have tonight.

Of course, you might luck out. Some girls don’t really care if your place is trashed, especially after half a dozen drinks. But in most cases, if you have sweat socks climbing up and down the walls by themselves and the place smells like the locker room after a big game, you’re going to strike out.

So spend a few minutes on the basics. The apartment doesn’t need to be ready for a military inspection, but it needs to be free of obvious filth. Pick up all of the laundry and put it in a hamper. If you don’t have one, buy one. Preferably one with a lid. Make sure all trash is thrown out. Make sure the dishes are done, or at least shoved into the dishwasher. Take the garbage out. The last thing you want when you’re trying to get a girl’s clothes off is for her to get a whiff of last Thursday’s tuna that’s still in the garbage can.

A clean apartment won’t guarantee you any action, but a filthy one will practically guarantee you won’t get any. And, if you’re like most of us, you need every advantage you can get. So, clean up that apartment. And make sure you have renters insurance. You never know. If you do get lucky, you might end up breaking something.
