Online insurer swiftcover.com has commissioned research which reveals that one in four consider cold callers to be the country’s biggest time wasters.
The daily commute was cited by 29% as the biggest waste of time, a necessary journey that lasts longer than an hour for 51% of those surveyed.
Other serious waste of time include household chores (25%), lengthy queues in shops (23%) and paperwork (16%).
The internet can help alleviate some of these, with online shopping, banking and insuring easier than ever before.
Banking and insuring is now done online by 70% of people, with 40% taking advantage of shopping from the comfort of their own home.
However, saving time is not necessarily good in itself, with 11% confessing to eating more microwaved meals to save time.
Marketing Director Tina Shortle attributed the increasing usage of the internet to the modern desire for instant gratification.
Shortle added that cold callers were so irksome because they invaded the precious private time that people enjoy so much in a bid to sell people things they have not asked for and do not want.
