Friends Life appoints investments director

Friends Life has appointed Colin Tipping to the newly-created position of director, unit linked investments.

Mr Tipping joins from BlackRock where he was most recently head of institutional wholesale.

In his new role, he will oversee an existing fund strategy and selection team, reporting into Colin Williams, director of corporate.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Tipping says: “With the industry on the brink of profound change, it is tremendously exciting to be joining a new company embracing the future.”

He adds: “As workplace savings continue to evolve, I look forward to helping Friends Life develop its investment offering, while making sure in these uncertain times it continues to protect the financial futures of its existing five million customers.”

Friends Life was launched at the end of March, having been formed by consolidator, Resolution, out of the merger of the UK operations of Friends Provident and life assurance businesses acquired from Bupa and AXA UK.

The business currently has over £100 billion of funds under management.
