Wedding insurance a must as typical costs nudge £20k

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) is reminding pre-nuptial couples to insure their wedding day.
According to the ABI, the cost of the typical wedding is nudging towards £20,000, with the potential to become the most expensive, as well as the happiest, day of a bride and groom’s life.
Common wedding mishaps covered by wedding insurance include: the collapse of the wedding cake into an inedible mush; a bad dose of flu for the happy couple, who are forced to cancel the ceremony; the marquee catching fire; the best man losing the ring(s) and a wardrobe malfunction that leaves the zipper on the wedding dress in the mother of the bride’s hand.
The ABI’s director of general and health, Nick Starling, comments: “While wedding insurance can’t guarantee that everything will go without a hitch, it can give you the peace of mind that any unforeseen events will be covered and go a long way to easing those pre-wedding jitters.”
He adds: “Whatever your budget is, be it the lavish spend of a celebrity bash or those on a much tighter budget, it is important to shop around and make sure you get the right policy to cover your costs and specific requirements.”
